Great C-SPAN Video

By dpearson

Wow, never thought I’d use that title for a blog posting.

John Hodgman discusses what it means to have our first nerd president. I got 2 out of 3 on the Dune Trivia questions, is that a good thing or a bad thing?

Internet Radio

By dpearson

I’ve known about Internet Radio for a long time. Two of my favorites are the 80s Channel on 977Music and Minnesota NPR. Just found out this morning that you can create custom Internet Radio Playlists in iTunes. Surprised I’ve never seen this feature before. Just create a new playlist, then go to Library -> Radio, find the stations you’re interested in and drag them to the playlist you created. They are sorted by type (Blues, Classic Rock, 80s, Raggae, etc) and have a huge selection. Plus it’s all free. Gotta like that.

Great Weird Al Video!

By dpearson

Weird Al video about Craigslist done in the style of Jim Morrison. Love the Native American footage intermixed with 60′s psychedelic video effects. Looks like they actually got Ray Manzarek to do the keyboards. Funny stuff.

Opera Unite

By dpearson

Looks like the Opera Web Browser has come up with something very new called Opera Unite. Looks like they are doing some very neat file sharing applications from within the browser. Seems to come at the right time for me. While I’ve enjoyed using Firefox for many years, the latest version seems to run a lot slower and take up tons of memory. May be time to make a switch, although I’d miss the useful Firefox plugin. Check out the video below for more details on Opera. I’m gonna have to play around with this one and see if it lives up to the hype.

Simple Pie

By dpearson

Found a neat little plug-in called Simple Pie for WordPress. Allows you to easily integrate RSS feeds from other sites into your blog. Also had to install Exec-PHP to get it to work.

Still haven’t figured out exactly how I’m going to use it. Don’t want the landing page on my blog to have too many links on it. Has some great potential though. Found out about it from a friend of mine, Brett Thoreson, using it to integrate a bunch of RSS feeds over at TwinCitiesTechJobs. Great site for anyone looking for tech work in the Twin Cities area.
