Unique Software

By dpearson

Unique Software
Found an excellent place for deals on all sorts of software for students called Unique Software down in Eagan, MN. All sorts of student discounts, especially for Adobe products. The student version of the Adobe CS3 Design Premium is only $295. That includes Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash and Dreamweaver. Pretty good deal for students.

Facebook Redesign

By dpearson

I’ve been hearing about the redesign of Facebook recently but haven’t seen any major changes to my profile page. I just found out you have to go to new.facebook.com to see the updated version. I like the new interface, seems a little easier to find stuff.

Searching Google from your Cell Phone

By dpearson

I found that using the web browser built into my cell phone is pretty slow and ends up costing me lots of minutes. A nice alternative is Google – SMS. By texting things like “weather 55102” to text number 466453 (which spells GOOGLE on your phone pad) you can get the most recent weather report for Saint Paul, MN. (zip code 55102).

Other queries I’ve made via Google SMS are:

pizza 55102 – Phone and addresses of pizza places in 55102

movies 55102 – Movie listings for theaters in 55102

directions 55102 to 55305 – Directions from St Paul to Minnetonka

The service is free from google but you will be changed text message rates.

Gimp Script Fu In earlier versions of GIMP, I’ve always found Script Fu to be a bit clumsy to use. I started playing around however in the Extension (Xtns) section of version 2.4.6 of GIMP and am surprised how easy it is to create good looking logos, buttons and other images very quickly. Here are three logos I created in a few minutes.

Google Pages

Google Pages

I’m always a little bit surprised how much Google gives away for free. This is a simple, template driven site that doesn’t require any knowledge of HTML or CSS but does allow to you customize your pages if you are familiar with HTML. I created a simple page duplicating some of the info from my main website in about an hour.

I went with the main template to begin with, then customized the HTML to create a table, embed a youtube video and add my tumblr RSS feed. Google gives you 100MB of space and allows you to upload photos very easily.

Who Is I

By dpearson

Who Is I
An interesting way to aggregate all of your social networking feeds or to find the feeds of other people. I modified my profile without having to create a user account. Looks like a neat idea.
