Hi. Darren Pearson here from DNP Consulting. Please feel free to leave feedback on any of my blog postings. I especially encourage feedback from Disqus users.
Just found a great app called Feedler for the iPad and iTouch.Does a great job formatting RSS feeds from Google Reader to an easy to read format.
Also have started to figure out how to effectively use use Google Reader. I use to put in RSS feeds from places like Digg, StarTribune and CNN but then would get overwhelmed at all the information. Instead, I’m finding it much more useful to visit those individual websites to get the news and then use Google Reader/Feeddler to follow friends blogs, Twitter account and other websites that only have new updates once a day.
Just found out a neat little feature on the iTouch, that also works on the iPhone and iPad. If you press the Power button and the Main Menu button at the same time, your iTouch performs a screen capture. Just go look in the Photos app and you’ll see a new photo which you can send via email. It’s in PNG format so very, very old browsers won’t recognize it but it’s a pretty neat feature. Heard about it while listening to iPad Today with Sarah Lane and Leo Laporte.Below is an example of my flickr app on my iTouch.
Just came across a neat site to share online discussions called Voicethread. Just started playing around with it but it looks like it has some neat uses in Education. Gonna have to try it out with my students. Check out the video below.
I get this questions a lot as an instructor in the Computer Careers department. Listened to a great program on “The Story” last night about Nic Adler, who runs “The Roxy” out on the Sunset Strip in Hollywood. He gives a very non-technical overview for using Twitter and Facebook as a advertising and marketing tool. The link to the full program is below.
Just got an invite this morning to try out Google Buzz. My guess is this uses a lot of the same ideas as Google Wave and is also trying to compete a bit with Twitter. They have a pretty good tutorial video on the site so check it out. Please feel free to check out my public profile: http://www.google.com/profiles/101189889746101360642#buzz
Just heard a podcast with Guy Kawasaki and decided to check out the new website he’s working on called AllTop. I’ve tried other RSS feed abrogators but none have really worked for me. Check out my customized set of feed here. Looks like a neat tool, guess I’ll give it a try for a few weeks. Would love to hear from anyone else using it and what they think.
I’ve found myself installing various Windows operating systems a lot over the years. After the OS is installed and patched, it usually takes me a couple of hours to install all the various free software tools I use. Just found a website called Ninite that helps to simplify the process. Includes browsers, imaging tools, music and multimedia tools, Antivirus packages and utilities. Looks pretty handy and I think I’ll have the chance to use it this weekend.
Found a great online Mac Reference guide. I just upgraded to Snow Leopard and, using Boot Camp, got XP also installed on my machine. Works very slick. Thought I’d post this since I get a few students each semester migrating from Windows to Macs and though it would be helpful.
There’s been a lot of talk recently about Net Neutrality. It’s a complex topic, so I thought I’d mention this article of Net Neutrality FAQs.
As someone who runs their own small website and blog, I a strong supporter of Net Neutrality. Save The Internet has a great video, which I’ve posted below, describing how changes in the current ISP rules would effect the average consumer. If you wish to learn more, please click on the banner below.
